How to install a cooling tower and key points to consider during installation

I. Construction Process

Positioning of civil works foundation → Pre-embedding steel plates → Fabrication of foundation steel frame → Cooling tower installation → Installation and connection of water pipes

II. Construction Technology

1. The cooling tower foundation must be constructed according to the designed model and foundation dimensions. Check against the design; if no design specifications are provided, check against the actual equipment on site for construction, inspection and acceptance. Equipment installation can only proceed after the cooling tower foundation has been accepted. All connecting parts of the equipment foundation use hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel bolts, with consistent and even tightening force.

2. Supports are installed at the cooling tower interface for the inlet and outlet water pipes.

3. First, install the tower support on the foundation, correct and level it, and weld it to the foundation embedded parts.

4. Secure the lower tower body to the tower support in numerical order and tighten it, then secure it to the base. Ensure the lower tower body is assembled flat, and place a film or apply 1mm fiberglass glue at the seams to ensure good water sealing. Install the support brackets and packing supports, and place corrugated sheets. The sheets should be overlapped crosswise, with a flat, evenly spaced surface, and no gaps between the sheets and the tower wall.

5. Connect the upper tower body in numerical order and tighten the bolts. Install the fan support on the fan cylinder, and install the motor and fan on the support. The fan rotation surface should be perpendicular to the tower body axis, with a uniform gap between the blade tip and the cylinder wall, ensuring the fan remains balanced and reduces vibration. Note the wind direction and ensure that the fasteners are not loose. Strictly prohibit forced assembly and arbitrary striking of fiberglass components to avoid damage and deformation affecting use.

6. Adjacent shells must be airtight. The water distribution pipe installation surface must be level. When installing the spray nozzle water distributor, first install the main pipe before assembling the water pipe, check the level, and then install the spray nozzle. The cooling tower must have clean incoming water; strictly prevent residual slag, dirt, and debris from blocking the pipes and water distribution holes.

III. Key Points for Cooling Tower Installation

1. Cooling towers should be installed neatly in a row, with the center line perpendicular to the ground, ensuring normal operation of the water distributor and electric motor fan. The gap between the fan blades and the fan cylinder should be consistent.

2. When installing the central water inlet pipe, ensure the water distributor is located in the center of the cooling tower, the inlet pipe is vertical, and the inlet pipe is horizontal. Supports are installed at the cooling tower interface for the inlet and outlet water pipes.

3. Install the cooling tower horizontally. For multiple cooling towers, ensure neat and orderly arrangement, with neat and aesthetically pleasing piping and supports. Valve placement should prioritize ease of operation.

4. The allowable deviation for the level and verticality of a single cooling tower installation is 1‰. When installing multiple cooling towers in the same cooling water system, the water levels of each cooling tower should be consistent, with a height difference of no more than 30mm.

5. The outlet and nozzle of the cooling tower are correctly positioned and oriented, and the sump is leak-proof.
